8 years of nurturing curiosity: The ABN Story

Eight years ago, Mr. Hussain Saher, the Principal of ABN Senior Secondary School was struggling to change the traditional setting of his class. Teachers at his school gave lectures in the class while students listened, copied from the board, mugged up answers to pass exams at the end of the year.  “There was no freedom for children to create, think, analyse and apply”, says Saher.

XSEED Education partnered with ABN in 2011 to help them break this status quo and build strong conceptual understanding among students. Children at the school have now started expressing themselves in their own words, understanding the application of concepts and exhibiting curiosity. “Children are curious all the time. They have never ending questions.”

Mr. Hussain Sehar quotes an example of a child, who was asked about the water cycle three different times. Every time he explained the concept, he used different words, different language to express his understanding of the concept. “This is what we call education, where a child understands the concepts and tries to express them in his own way”, adds Saher.

“The schools with history and heritage are generally challenging to transform. However, ABN has defied that to become a center of excellence for learning and of XSEED implementation. Despite being one of the oldest schools in Indore, ABN has shown agility to transform itself and has succeeded in implementing some of the best learning practices. We are proud of the partnership we have with them”, says Jyotsna Sharma, REO of XSEED Education in Madhya Pradesh.
